Howard Casebolt, 85

Howard Casebolt, 85, of Gladbrook, passed away Saturday, November 27th, 2010, at Westbrook Acres Care Center in Gladbrook. A celebration of Howard’s life was held Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Interment was in Crystal Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home in Gladbrook is entrusted with arrangements. Howard was born in Lucas County, Iowa on January 18, 1925, the son of Raymond and Lula (Willoughby) Casebolt. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1942. On August 30, 1948, Howard was united in marriage to Delores Eggers in Gladbrook. In 1947, Howard came to Gladbrook with a road crew. He later worked as a hired farm hand for Howard Lynch and Elvin Thede, and working for Bill Mohr at Mohr’s Garage. On February 6, 1953 Howard opened Casebolt 66 in the station formerly operated by Ray Schwabauer. Howard purchased the station from Harold Claussen. Howard and Mike owned and operated the service station and fuel truck until 1993. In 1978, he built Casey’s in Gladbrook which he owned until 2002. In his younger days, Howard enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and bowling. After retirement Howard enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. Howard will be missed by his wife Delores Casebolt, children, Mike (Linda) Casebolt of Pella, Geri (David) Eilers of Gladbrook and Brian Casebolt of Montour; 4 grandchildren, Brett (Julie) Casebolt, Eric (Deborah) Casebolt, Megan (Josh) Harrell and Bradley Eilers, 7 great grandchildren, Allyson, Morgan, Tyler, Macy, Olivia, Ellie, Jack; brother, Benard Casebolt of Waverly, and sister Dorothy Droter of Edgewater, FL. Howard is preceded in death by a son, Douglas Casebolt in 1968, 7 brothers, Kenneth, Bruce, Bill, Neil, Orlan, Truman and Carl; 4 sisters, Marvel Scott, Elsie Foutch, Bernice Bettis and Vivan Davis.
