Dean Vint

Dean Vint, 84, of LeGrand, died Friday night, September 10th, at his home while in care of his loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 15th, at the LeGrand Friends Church with Pastor Alan Mullikin officiating. He was laid to rest in the Crystal Cemetery near Garwin. Memorials may be directed to the LeGrand Friends Church, Garwin United Methodist Church or Iowa River Hospice. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dean and his family. Born Cleon Dean Vint on May 31st, 1926, at Beaman, Iowa, he was the son of Emil and Grace (Raper) Vint. He graduated from the Beaman High School’s Class of 1943 and soon after served our country honorably from 1944 to 1946 in the United States Army Air Borne as a paratrooper. On January 18th, 1948, he was united in marriage to Melva Rohweder in Gladbrook. They lived at Beaman and then farmed near Garwin for 38 years, retiring in 1992 and moving to LeGrand. Dean painted numerous area houses and buildings as well. Dean was a charter member of the Garwin Lions Club then transferred to the LeGrand Lions Club. He served on the Garwin School Board and was a member of the Garwin United Methodist Church, later transferring to the LeGrand Friends Church, member of the Garwin American Legion and an active volunteer in the community. Dean cherished his family, loved to do art painting, avid fan of any family member’s activity, watching the Chicago Cubs, playing cards, always sharing a story, and knew no strangers. He will be greatly missed by many. Left to cherish his memory are Melva, his loving wife of 62 years, his children: Mike (Cathy) Vint of Marshalltown, Dan (Tawanna) Vint of Gladbrook, Becky (Gary) Fricke of Melbourne and Jeff (Carlee) Vint of Little Rock, Arkansas; his dear grandchildren- Carrie (Ryan) Hook, Matt (Jessica) Vint, Joel (Sarah) Vint, Jorden Rowles, Adaira Calhoun, Breanna Vint, Chris (Sara) Fricke, Tim (Amber) Fricke, Eric (Emily) Fricke, Saren (Lucas) Hauser, Kyle Vint and Caitlin Vint, eight great-grandchildren, his brother Darwin (Marjorie) Vint of Conrad, as well as nieces, nephews, the Rohweder family and a host of friends. In death, Dean rejoined his parents, sister Elizabeth Boss, sister Avis Vint (in infancy) and brother Howard Vint.
