Margaret Pemberton

Margaret Pemberton, 98, of Waukee, formerly of Garwin, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at The Village of Legacy Point, in Waukee, of natural causes. Funeral services were held Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Garwin United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Garwin Cemetery. Margaret Ailene Jenkins Pemberton, 98, of Waukee and formerly of Garwin was born on September 1, 1911 near Oskaloosa, IA.  She was the daughter of Roy and Lulu Ellsworth Jenkins.  Margaret was raised and educated in Oskaloosa, graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1929.  She graduated from William Penn College in Oskaloosa with a degree in English in 1933. Margaret married Kenneth Pemberton on January 27, 1934 in Lancaster, MO.  They spent most of their married life on a farm west of Garwin.  Kenneth and Margaret retired to Garwin in 1969. Margaret was a member of the Garwin United Methodist Church, a fifty year member of the Garwin Woman’s Club and the Olivene Chapter #326 Eastern Star of Gladbrook.  She was a member of Duo Dicem Birthday Club and had served on the Garwin Library Board. Margaret died on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 while a resident at The Village of Legacy Point in Waukee, Iowa.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 1993, and two sisters, Ardeth Gable and Lucille Jenkins.  Margaret is survived by one son, Ted(Shirley) Pemberton of Tempe, AZ; 3 daughters, Judith (Mel) Shaver of Sterling, IL, Susan Pemberton of Lake Bluff, IL and Cindy (Paul) Bergman of Granger, IA; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Woolford of Lee Summit, MO.
