Obituary – Marjorie Wegner

Marjorie Wegner, age 79, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Saturday July 10, 2010, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook with Rev. Kim Wilson officiating. Marjorie Ann Nieman was born August 15, 1930, in Shellrock, IA, the daughter of Abel and Eva (Green) Nieman.  She was raised in the New Hartford area, graduating from New Hartford High School in 1948 and was employed in Waterloo at the dime store. Marjorie was united in marriage to Gerald Walter Wegner on August 29, 1953 in Missouri. Together they lived and farmed in the Gladbrook and Garwin areas until retiring in 1995.  Marjorie was a homemaker and enjoyed baking cookies and pies, for which she won a contest with for her rhubarb cream pie.  She loved doing puzzles, playing cards,  bingo, dancing, and playing the piano.  Marjorie collected dolls, pencils, antique toys, and plates.  She also enjoyed scrap-booking and genealogy.  Marjorie was a  custodian and member of the Garwin Methodist Church.  Marjorie was also a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Ladies Guild at church, American Legion, Fraternity of Eagles, Tama County Farm Bureau and a volunteer at the Garwin Library. Marjorie will be missed by her children, Laverne (Susan) Wegner of Gladbrook, Sheryl (Richard) Stalzer of Haverhill, Sheila Chatman of Toledo; grandchildren, Heather (Brett) Warren, Nicole and (Eric) Engle, Vanessa (Jamie) Smock, Ross Stalzer, Ryan Stalzer, Blake Hand, Larissa Siemens; and 9 great-grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, brothers, Paul, Robert and Ralph Nieman, and step-daughter Jeannie Wegner.
