Obituary

Orville Marion Brekke, Jr., 65, of Gladbrook, died Saturday, April 17th, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21st, at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church with Pastor Roger White officiating. He was laid to rest in the Gethmann Cemetery east of Gladbrook. Visitation was held at the church from 6-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family in his memory to be used for the Brekke Memorial Park, Gladbrook United Methodist Church and the Gladbrook Ambulance Service. Born at home on November 8th, 1944, he was the son of Orville and Pearl (Henderson) Brekke, Sr. He graduated from the Union-Whitten High School’s Class of 1962 and later from AIB in Des Moines with his degree in accounting.

On June 2nd, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Koster at the Little Brown Church. They made Gladbrook their home where he was an accountant for 43 years. Orville was a member of the Gladbrook United Methodist Church and served as a trustee and church auditor. He was a member of the Gladbrook Ambulance Service and participated in many community projects.

Orville enjoyed remodeling, attending his grandkids music and sporting events, and enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with his wife, hiking and had a passion for older cars.

Left to cherish his memory are Marilyn, his loving wife of 46 years, daughter Kari (Duane) Groth of Gladbrook and son Mike Brekke of Ames, grandchildren Heidi (Sean) Williams and Blaine Groth, his siblings: Joan Luing, Robert Brekke, Richard Brekke, Ron Brekke, Jerald Brekke, Joyce McDonald, Dennis Brekke, Jack Brekke, Janice Mannetter, Dan Brekke, Jean Gustafson and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In death he rejoined his parents and brothers Joel and Orlan Brekke.
