This beautiful fall day welcomed the Gladbrook Auxiliary to its Education Month meeting Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. The Centennial room set up for a video presentation by Nicole Clapp our National Auxiliary President.

President Jeanne opened the meeting with the Pledge to our Flag and prayer by Sue Koster with six officers answering roll call.

Clapp narrated a video of her visits to South Dakota, Michigan, Ohio and Alaska.

Modern technology has made it possible for the work of the Auxiliary to continue with virtual meetings 6-8 times a week from home. She is certainly enjoying her extended office as National President, bringing her smile and enthusiasm to everyone she meets.

The business meeting continued with the Secretary’s and Treasurers’ reports.

The Auxiliary served a delivered meal to 40 senior citizens on Friday, Oct 9.

The next Tama County meeting will be held at the Gladbrook Memorial Bldg Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.

A Memorial Service for all Legion and Auxiliary members lost this past year will be held by Chaplain Lorraine Vileta. Lunch will be furnished.

The Third District Fall Conference will be held at the Waverly Post on Saturday, Oct 31 with 8am registration. A donation box will replace the Merit Award silent auction.

There will be door to door Trick or Treating in Gladbrook, but organizations and churches will have Treat or Trunk stations on main street where children may visit from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

Discussion was had about the November Veterans Day program with the 6:30 p.m. supper prepared by the Auxiliary.

Guests coming are Department, District and County commanders and spouses. A program is planned with the Auxiliary extending our thanks for service to all our military men and women. Please try to attend.

The Auxiliary will not be making popcorn balls for the Santa Sacks this year as those activities are also changed.

There will be no tree on Main Street, no Festival of Trees or trolley rides or adult prizes.

Santa will be in the empty lots on Main Street to give out sacks to the children Wednesday, Nov.18 and perhaps a photo or two.

The ALA Kids Shopping Day at PUCC is canceled due to the COVID-19.

The IVH Gift Shop is also canceled with resident’s families receiving gift cards.

Membership is slowly coming in with 133 sent to Department of our 264 goal. We will be looking for 7-8 new members so everyone check with that new neighbor or church friend if they may be eligible through a family member serving in the military on active duty for at least one day since December 7, 1941.

The Legion and Auxiliary encourages everyone to exercise their right to vote on November 3. If you choose to vote by absentee ballot, it should be returned ASAP to be counted.
