Gladbrook-Reinbeck 8th Grade Boys Basketball move to 2-0 on Season By Caoch Steve Luethje

Friday, Dec. 7th, G-R 8th grade Boys Basketball traveled south to Gilman to play East Marshall. The Rebels won 57-21, now 2-0 overall. The Mustangs came into contest 1-2, but the Rebels controlled the game, it’s never easy to play in these older gyms. What I mean is that many Junior High gyms in the area are small and tight, older varnished floors, so footing is an issue, one basket over a stage other attached to wall. The gyms I grew up playing in, and I’m sure a few of our older fans can relate to this, as we are little spoiled with Gladbrook’s gym being the nicest Junior Gym and our home court (my personal view), so on the road, we always need to dig down and overcome the home court advantage and learn that adversity is a great thing something each individual player learns to overcome and then you become better for that experience. Leading the Rebels were two players who had it going: Joe Smoldt, lead our team in both areas of points and steals, with 23 pts and 7 steals night, plus another perfect night from free throw line, as he has not missed a free throw this season and Thomas Mussig 16 pts and team high 12 rebounds both are career high stats for this young player, Tyler Pierce 8 pts going a perfect 3 for 3 on shots with 2 free throws who only last week told me he could not shoot well, well you can!, Erik Knaack 6 pts who always hustles and works hard, Spencer Goos 2 pts (his first points of season) followed by Alex Tscherter, 1 assist, 1 rebound, 1 steal, Matt Roeding 3 assist, 2 steals, 2 rebounds with 0 turnover game who is one of best team players I have ever coached he personally passed up many scoring chances to help his team, Jaden McGhee 2 rebounds, Jed Peterson 1 assist, 2 steals, 5 rebounds game. I truly encourage every G-R fan/citizen to come watch us play. Our upcoming schedule is Dec. 17th at GMG (game time to follow 8th grade may play 2nd game in this contest?), Dec. 20th at Grundy Center, Jan 4th at New Hartford, Jan 8th at Gladbrook vs W. Marshall, Jan 10th at Gladbrook vs AGWSR, Jan 15th at Union, Jan 17th at Radcliffe, Jan 22 at Gladbrook vs East Marshall, our final game is Jan 28th at Gladbrook vs A-P, with starting time of 4:15p.m. for 8th graders, and 7th grade boys game to follow.
