High School Football-Belle Plaine 55, GMG 20

GARWIN – The GMG football team suffered its fourth consecutive loss, a 55-20 setback at the hands of Belle Plaine in Class A District 4 play. Quarterback Austin Vaughn contributed 81 yards rushing to go along with 112 yards on 3-of-7 passing. Vaughn had a 50-yard scoring run and Bryce Newcomb hauled in a 64-yard touchdown pass from Vaughn to account for the Wolverines’ points in the first half. Belle Plaine (4-1, 2-0) led 48-14 at the intermission. Blake Warren had a team-high 81 yards rushing for GMG (1-5, 0-3), and Luke Petty tacked on an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Wolverines. Lucas Catherwood led the way with eight tackles, Vaughn and Newcomb had six stops, and Petty added an interception. Lance Hinschberger rushed for six touchdowns to lead Belle Plaine. GMG has a bye week next Friday before traveling to face Iowa Valley on Oct. 5
