GR School Board

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck School Board held their regular monthly meeting on July 20 at 6:30 in the G-R elementary building. The meeting began with visitors Andrea Rowe and John Olson who spoke about the 7th/8th grade trip to Washington D.C. in June. This was followed by the approval of the agenda and consent agenda.

Resignations from Beth Murty, JH/HS special education associate, Megan Welter, JH girl’s basketball coach, Danielle Clark, HS softball coach, and Rick Benda, custodian were accepted. Contracts for Jessica Husmann, football/basketball cheerleading coach, Chris Kuehl and Megan Welter, JH volleyball coach, Bruce Bailey and Lauren Bengen, JH girl’s basketball coach, Jackson Anderson, JH wrestling were accepted. Other approved contracts were: Jana Bystricky, bus route driver, Donna Dinsdale and Denise Harrison, food service, Greg Tessendorf, 7-12 L.A./part time speech, and Val Ehlers, part time speech coach/drama director.

In new business, JH boy’s basketball coach Steve Luejthe’s contract was rescinded. Spring sport’s coach contract was approved, renewing all of the spring coaches contracts. Anderson Erickson was awarded the milk bid, followed by Pan of Gold Baking Company receiving the bread bid. Cooley Sanitation was awarded the bid for the Reinbeck campus, but has been tabled at this time for the Gladbrook campus. Mid Iowa Co-op received the bid for Gladbrook fuel, and Heartland Co-op for Reinbeck and Lincoln fuel.

Bus routes, shuttles, and special education routes were approved. This will consist of six regular routes, three from each town, three shuttles, and three special education routes. It was approved to scrap a 2002 Ford Windstar and take bids and sell a 1995 Buick Regal. An Amendment of Cafeteria Plan consisting of the flexible benefits for administrators was approved. Kapaun Consulting Engineers will continue to work on the soccer field lighting. There will be a public hearing August 5 followed by the board awarding the bid on August 20. The project should be completed by October 15.

There are no summer projects for the school being conducted at this time, although letters for the signs on the front of the junior high/high school and elementary buildings have been ordered. An agreement with Crayon Corner Daycare/Preschool to add a storage shed was approved. The board approved the continuation of the sharing agreement with Dike New-Hartford for boy’s soccer.

The board will appoint five people to replace current members serving on the Advisory Committee and also select people to serve on a committee for the petition for dissolution of district. Under the superintendent’s report, Superintendent Mr. Mathis stated the moving from Gladbrook to Reinbeck is complete. Plans for putting up a digital sign in Reinbeck along the highway was briefly discussed. School board election filing deadline is July 30.

The school board meeting was adjourned at 8:35. A special meeting will take place on August 5 at 5:30. The next regular meeting will be August 20 at the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Elementary.
