G-R District Individual Speech Contest Results By: Shelby Yates

This previous Saturday, March 1st, the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Individual Speech team made the long, extremely snowy trip to Clarion-Goldfield to compete in District Individual Speech contest. 15 high schoolers participated in Individual Speech contest with majority of them competing in two events. On the District level, the student delivers their piece(s) in front of one judge who takes notes of their strengths and weaknesses based on the criteria for each event. The judges then give oral comments of things the student did very well and things they could work on in the future (however, due to the very unpleasant weather, we didn’t receive oral comments). Judges then decide if you should continue on to state based on your performance. If you receive a I rating, you advance to State Individual Speech contest, (which will be held this upcoming Saturday, March 15th) but if you receive a II, then you do not advance. Gladbrook-Reinbeck was extremely successful at District Individual Speech contest! 18 out of 21 of our events made it to State? 13 out of the 15 students, therefore, will be traveling to Starmont for State contest next week. Keep rooting for the performers to do their best in the upcoming contest and congratulate those who have made it to state with a job well done!
