WESTBROOK ACRES MEMORIAL SERVICE Please join us on Tuesday March 12th at 2:00 pm for our annual memorial service. This is a special time for us here at Westbrook, for family, friends, and staff. This is a time to remember and honor the lives of those who have passed away in 2018. Fellowship and refreshments will follow the service. Happy Birthday To All of You!!!! A note from the Administrator: What an eventful February!! I want to extend a very sincere THANK YOU to all of the staff here at Westbrook for being so dedicated to the building during these past several weeks. The weather has sure tested us…it certainly is wonderful to know that all departments are willing to do what it takes to ensure that our residents are well cared for! HAPPY EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY on March 1st. We sure appreciate the staff of Westbrook Acres…we believe they are the best around! I want to continue to remind visitors…that if you are feeling like you are experiencing cold/flu symptoms, to please refrain from visiting the facility. Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group WHEN: Tuesday, March 26th WHERE: Westbrook Acres Activities Room TIME: 4:00pm Family Members have their own individual ways of coping with loved ones who suffer from Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Our group provides an understanding and compassionate atmosphere to discuss different ways of dealing with the effects of either disease. The podiatrists thought it was a big step forward. The chiropractors thought they were being manipulated. The cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say “no.” The pathologist said “Over my dead body!” The anesthesiologist thought the whole idea was a gas. Resident of the Month – June Haack June was born and raised in Wright, Iowa. She was the oldest of 4 children. June graduated from Ringstead, Iowa. Her father worked for the Rail Road so they moved a lot. After graduation she moved to California to live with her aunt. She worked there for about 2 years. June moved back home, then the war broke out. She then went to Portland to work in the ship yard. Afterwards she moved to Gladbrook where her parents had moved. She met her husband Clarence, more than likely at one of the dances they frequented. They were married in April of 1948. They had one daughter, Linda. Her husband had been a prisoner of war for 3 years. She worked at the Sunnyside Restaurant for awhile after they were married and did some babysitting. He farmed and she helped milk the cows, and feed the chickens. She shared with me about dancing at the Bowery in Garwin. They had good music, a big dance floor and it was always crowded. She stated those were quite the days. June enjoyed walking with the England girls all over Gladbrook, and you will still see her walking the halls here every day. June loved her kitties and cats, and had a dog named Peggy. They had one daughter Linda. June always has a smile on her face. We enjoy having you here June, you join in with almost everything we do here, and that makes it fun!
