The annual theme is “Proud of What We Do!” A big THANKS to our “xtra” special dietary staff! We appreciate all you do for us, each and every one of you play an important role!! “Becoming a vegetarian is a huge missed steak.” Did you hear about the hungry clock? He went back four seconds. Why should you go to the paint store when you’re on a diet? You can get thinner there. We’d like to express our deepest sympathies to the families of Roland Dahms. He will be missed and we will keep the family in our thoughts and prayers. We have a winner for the “Name the Beauty Shop” contest. We had a lot of good ideas. Marjorie Degner was the winner with the name “Ages of Beauty.” We thank you Marjorie and hope you enjoy your $20.00 gift certificate. Thank you to Lanette Martin, for coming up with the idea and the gift certificate for the winner. Thanks again! Valentine Celebration We will be having our Valentine’s Day celebration on Wednesday, February 13th. Beginning at 2:00 pm, we will take pictures under a beautiful decorated arch. Everyone is welcome to have their pictures taken. We will be serving cocktails at 5:00pm and our Sweetheart Dinner will be at 6:00pm. Entertainment will begin at 6:30 with Phil Gould performing for us. We look forward to a fun evening. Happy Valentine’s Day! Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group WHEN: Tuesday, February 26th WHERE: Westbrook Acres Activities Room TIME: 4:00pm Family Members have their own individual ways of coping with loved ones who suffer from Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Our group provides an understanding and compassionate atmosphere to discuss different ways of dealing with the effects of either disease. Sylvia was born on a farm in Warrens, Wisconsin on November 13, 1920. There were 10 kids in her family. She graduated from high school at the age of 16, and moved to Chicago to live with her aunt at age 17. She was married to her husband John for 59 years. They had two children. Sylvia has 9 grandchildren and 16 great – grandchildren. Sylvia was a Catholic Church secretary for 25 years. She wrote short plays, and was a church wedding/funeral soloist for 25 years. She can sing and really keep a beat. She once auditioned for the chorus at the Chicago Metropolitan Opera. She was accepted but chose to stay home to raise her son. She once was a leader of song at one of the masses at St. Cyprian Catholic Church in River Grove, Ill. She served as an executive secretary for a pastor and two priests for 25 years. Sylvia moved to Iowa in 1984 to be near her daughter Bunny. Sylvia loves birds, especially cardinals. She had 5 cats, and several dogs throughout the years. She was an avid bowler, and ran Bingo at Church. She received awards for typing, {113 words a minute,} and bowling. Sylvia has a deep faith in Christ, and just takes things as they come. She loves to visit, loves all animals, and has no fear of anything. Sylvia is a fascinating person who has led a very full life. We really enjoy having her here, and we thank you Sylvia for sharing your wonderful memories with us. A note from the Administrator: Hope you all have been staying warm and safe these past couple of weeks! We kindly ask that if you think you are experiencing any type of cold/flu symptoms that you refrain from visiting your loved ones. We have a sign posted at the front door to reflect this…this is to protect our vulnerable adults as well as yourselves. We are hoping to have our Dementia Support Group this month…weather permitting.
