Tips to enhance voting experience in general election on Nov. 8

Rhonda R. Deters, Grundy County Auditor, recommends the following tips to enhance your voting experience in the General Election on November 8:

Register to vote. The State of Iowa requires citizens to be registered in order to vote. If you are not registered to vote, you may pre-register for the General Election on or before October 29. Simply complete a Voter Registration Form which is available at the Grundy County Auditor’s Office or on the Grundy County website, www.grundycounty.org, or on the website for the Secretary of State, sos.iowa.gov, or by calling the Grundy County Auditor’s Office at 319-824-3122.

Know your polling place location. If you expect to vote in person on Election Day, you may confirm your polling location on the website for the Secretary of State, sos.iowa.gov, or by calling the Grundy County Auditor’s Office at 319-824-3122.

Be ready to confirm your residence address. If you expect to vote in person on Election Day, you may use your driver’s license or non-operator identification card to check in to your polling place and confirm your residence address.

Check the accessibility of your polling place. If you are a voter with specific concerns due to special needs or a disability, contact the Grundy County Auditor’s Office at 319-824-3122 for advice, information about voting equipment, and details on access to the polling place.

Consider voting early. Absentee ballots for the General Election are expected to be ready on September 29 and may be voted in the Grundy County Auditor’s Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. after that date. You may also request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you by submitting an absentee ballot request form which is available at the Grundy County Auditor’s Office or on the Grundy County website, www.grundycounty.org, or on the website for the Secretary of State, sos.iowa.gov, to the Grundy County Auditor’s Office.

Understand absentee voting requirements. The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is November 4. Absentee ballots for the General Election returned by mail must be postmarked on or before November 7 and received by noon on November 14 to be considered on time to be counted.
